LAHORE
Different religious parties, representing the opponent group of Sahibzada Fazal Karim, on Sunday nominated Syed Mehfooz Mashahdi as acting Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council.
A meeting of one of the group of Majlis e Shoora of Sunni Ittehad Council, taking notice of “unconstitutional” acts of Sahibzada Fazal Karim, cancelled his basic membership. The meeting also unanimously decided that Fazal Karim and Haji Hanif Tayab had no mandate to use the name of Sunni Ittehad Council.
The meeting was attended by Peer Syed Mehfooz Mashadhi, Peer Syed Safdar Hussein Gilani, Maulana Zain ul Hamid, Syed Mehmood ul Hassan, Allama Hyder Alvi, Shabir Hussein Shah Bokhari, Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah and others.
The Majlis e Shoora nominated Syed Mehfooz Mashahdi as the acting Chairman and criticised Sahibzada Fazal Karim for joining hands with the PML-Q for his personal interests. The meeting also regretted over the fact that Sahibzada Fazal Karim was elected on the ticket of the PML-N and still drawing all perks from the party. The participants also alleged that Sahibzada Fazal Karim was also involved in corruption related to a plot of land worth millions of rupees before parting ways with the PML-N.
Besides, the participants also stated that Haji Hanif Tayab had a history of deceiving his benefactors as in the past he had ditched Maulana Shah Ahmed Nurani and joined hands with Ziaul Haq which eventually brought him a ministry. The meeting also called for immediate general elections, stern measures to restore peace in Karachi and criminals must be punished publicly. The meeting also demanded immediate arrest of terrorists involved in bomb attacks on Masjids. The participants of the meeting also decided to hold countrywide conventions. Meanwhile, Haji Hanif Tayyab, Secretary General Fazal Karim-led SIC, in a statement stated the meeting called by Mehfooz Mashahdi had no constitutional worth. He said the step of dismissing Fazal Karim from the office of chairman was ridiculous.
