Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved revision of conveyance allowance of the Punjab government officers and officials from BPS-1 to 19 with effect from July 2012.
Directions in this regard have been issued to the Finance Department and an annual expenditure of over Rs12 billion will be borne by the Punjab government under this head.
Metro busL Chief Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said temporary difficulties, being faced by the citizens during construction of metro bus project will soon turn into permanent relief as the project will bring about a revolution in the transport history of the country.
He said that after the project’s inauguration, free transport service would be provided to the travelers for a few days. He said the public welfare project would complete soon and would rid the people of transport problems. Shahbaz was talking to the citizens and labourers during his surprise visit to metro bus project here on Sunday. He reviewed the pace of work at different sections from Gajjumatta to the Civil Secretariat without security or protocol.
He said work was in progress on the project round the clock. He said the PML-N government was taking steps to remove the disparity between the rich and the poor and the bus project was a practical step in this regard. Therefore, he said, the fare rate of metro bus would be kept within the reach of the common man.
He said excellent arrangements had been made to facilitate the people during the construction of metro bus project route and the construction work of Kalma Chowk underpass while the construction work of the roads along the project was also being completed expeditiously.
During his visit, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned and contractors to complete the project at the earliest, maintaining the high standard of construction work. He said there was no room for delay and various tasks should be completed within the timeline.
The CM said a modern system, having the latest equipments, should be introduced for metro bus project while the construction work of stations should also be completed.
He also issued instructions for early completion of the construction of the drain on the Ferozepur Road. He went to metro bus depot and directed the contractor to complete the work quickly, ensuring modern parking facilities for the buses. He inspected construction work at Kalma Chowk underpass project as well. He said the number of wardens should be increased for maintaining flow of traffic during execution of the project and alternative arrangements should be made so that the citizens should not face any difficulty.
The CM was given a briefing by the LDA DG on the pace of work of metro bus and Kalma Chowk underpass projects.
Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday paid a surprise visit to metro bus project without security or protocol.
A large number of people gathered at various places on seeing the CM. He mingled with the people and labourers.
