FAISALABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the PML-N hadrigged the by-elections through Patwaris, teachers and policemen.
Addressing a public meeting at the Kutchery Chowk, Samundri, on Sunday, he said the media reported that the turnout was considerably lower but fake votes were polled through teachers, Patwaris and policemen.
The deputy prime minister said that the by-elections in the province were openly rigged while lawlessness marred the polling process. He said that he personally contacted the Chief Election Commissioner, Fakharuddin Ibrahim, and complained about the rigging but no action had so far been taken. Pervaiz Elahi said it seemed that the PML-N and the Punjab government had hijacked the election commission.
He, however, said that the situation would be totally reversed during the general elections when the PML-N would have no support of the establishment. He claimed that the PML-Q would dominate in the general elections because of its excellent public service.
He alleged that the PML-N was victimising the political opponents and said that five fake cases were registered against PML-Q leader Khalid Mehmood Nabi but he would stand with him in all odds.
Narrating the performance of his government in the province, Pervaiz Elahi said that a road at a cost of Rs1.4 billion was completed in Samundri. He said that he launched Rescue 1122 service in the province. He maintained that his government gave scholarship to 1.1 million students and distributed free books among 20 million students in addition to the construction of new schools, colleges and universities.
He lamented that 400 schools had been closed in the Faisalabad district while the law and order situation was deteriorating day by day in the province. He said that 100 dacoities were reported from Lahore city. He said that the roads constructed by the PML-Q government had been taxed to extort money from the people.
He termed the PML-N president Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif as anti-worker and anti-farmer and said that they had two sugar mills in the region, which failed to make payment for the sugarcane purchased from farmers during the last year.
He said that the Sharif brothers had no sympathy with the masses and they exploited the situation to get their votes. He said that funds from the south Punjab, Faisalabad and Samundri had been diverted to Lahore. He termed Metro Bus Service as Jangla Bus Service and said it was being provided to facilitate the elite class.
He was critical of the slogan of Nawaz Sharif to build a new Pakistan and said that it was only a political gimmick. He asked the Sharif brothers to have pity on the people of the Punjab and discard the so-called failed schemes, like yellow cab, ashiana, Sasti Roti, mechanical tandoors and Jangla bus service. He challenged Nawaz Sharif to conduct an impartial survey of development projects launched during his period and those initiated by Shahbaz Sharif in the province. He said that his government had left the Punjab with a surplus budget of Rs100 billion but now it was under heavy loan of Rs500 billion.
Pervaiz Elahi announced the establishment of a passport office at Samundri and provision of gas to villages of the Tehsil. Speaking on the occasion, Sunni Ittehad Council chief Sahibzada Fazl Karim said that terrorism was the root cause of all problems, which was being harboured by some influential politicians and political parties. Former MPA Ch Zaheer and Khalid Nabi also addressed the meeting.
