The police arrested three people on Wednesday and recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession.
Deputy
Inspector General (DIG) of Police East Shahid Hayat, in a press
briefing, told newsmen that the illegal arms were seized after the law
enforcers caught a bus that was smuggling the items. Earlier, the police
had received a tip that arms were being smuggled from
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to the city.

Khawaja deployed his men on the Super Highway and start checking
Karachi-bound buses. When the police signaled one of the vehicles to
stop, the driver slammed on the accelerator and tried to speed away
However,
the cops managed to chase him down and intercepted the vehicle. The bus
driver, Muhammad Fayyaz, and cleaner Dost Muhammad were taken into
custody.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of
19 Sub Machine Guns, 21 different types of rifles, two TT pistols, two
9MM rifles, one hand grenade, a rocket and over one thousand bullets.
Based on the information provided by the suspects, the police alsi arrested a clearing and forwarding agent named Shamsher Khan.
DIG
East said that these arms were being smuggled in the city to be used
during the Ashura procession in Muharram and the upcoming elections. He
added that the main culprits were still at large.
Extortionists held
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Wednesday arrested two people who were allegedly involved in extortion cases.
The police claimed that two TT pistols were also recovered from the possession the detained men.
The
law enforcers said that both men were arrested after a brief encounter
that took place in the Saeedabad police jurisdiction.
During
the initial interrogation, the suspects disclosed that their names were
Zeeshan and Muhammad Siddique. They both confessed that they
masterminded extortion cases and collected the money for the
Tehreek-e-Taliban. The militant outfit would then use the money to
finance its terrorist activities.
