Karachi
The
Jeay Sindh Tehreek (JST) announced on Wednesday that it would hold a
province-wide protest to demand the arrest of builders and a top police
official who were named in an FIR for allegedly opening fire and killing
two people at a flood relief camp in Chappal Sun City located in the
Sachal police limits.
JST President Dr Safdar Sikri said
that all the suspects should be arrested and the policeman accused in
the case dismissed otherwise the party would stage protests from
Kashmore to Karachi
Addressing a news conference at the
Karachi Press Club, Dr Sirki alleged that SSP Abdullah Shaikh and Rauf
Chappal, along with other builders of Chappal Sun City, opened fire on
men, women and children at the relief camp. The shooting resulted in the
deaths of Ghulam Qamber Soomroo and Ayaz Panwhare, while 17 suffered
bullet wounds.
He added that the Sachal police station refused to register an FIR on the incident when approached by the
JST and the families of the victims.
An
application was moved before a sessions court and later the Sindh High
Court, but the JST president alleged that the builders and the SSP used
their money, power and connections to make the petition null and void.
Another
application was submitted in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and almost
two years after the incident, the apex court issued an order on October
15, 2012, to lodge the FIR.
The FIR was lodged according
to these directions, but no arrest was made and the builders were
threatening the impoverished families with dire consequences if the case
was not withdrawn.
He said that the JST would be
forced to use arms if the police or the builders used intimidation
tactics against the affected families. “We are afraid of threats and
will never surrender to the state machinery,” he maintained.
