CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said Pakistan is facing serious challenges while the federal government has badly failed on all the internal and external fronts.
He said the anti-state elements were conspiring to disturb the law and order. He said elimination of extremism was necessary for development. He said that unfortunately both the murderer and the murdered today were Muslims, adding that ethnic, linguistic and sectarian disputes had pushed the country to a depressing situation. He said the elements playing with the lives of the innocent people did not deserve to be called humans.
Shahbaz stated this while talking to the assembly members of various districts here on Friday.
He said Islam is a religion of peace and brotherhood and said Ulema and Mashaikh should give the message of amity, tolerance and restraint. He said that there was a heavy responsibility on the religious scholars to play their role for maintaining atmosphere of peace and tranquility in the society. He said the pulpit should be used only for promoting the sentiments of fraternity, brotherhood and harmony.
The CM said Pakistan was passing through the most critical phase of its history and its enemies were bent upon destabilizing the country. As such, he said, the importance of maintaining peace and harmony during Muharram had increased manifold. He said the Muslims believe in one God, one Prophet and one Book and differences among them were a matter of serious concern.
The chief minister said there was a need to foil the evil designs of the enemies with the force of unity and it’s time to exercise caution and restraint. He said all necessary measures gad been taken for protection of life and property of people in Muharram, especially on Youm-e-Ashur, and foolproof security arrangements had been made for this purpose. He said instructions had been issued for strict implementation of the four-tier security cordon all over the province, including Lahore, on Youm-e-Ashur. He stressed upon assembly members and leaders and workers of PML-N to play an active role for the maintenance of an atmosphere of peace and law and order in the province.

He said deep friendly ties exist between Pakistan and Poland; however, these relations need to be changed into trade and economic cooperation.
He was talking to a parliamentary delegation led by Chairman Senate of Poland Bogdan Borusewicz here on Friday.
The chief minister said Poland had expertise in generating energy through coal and Punjab government and Poland could start joint ventures in the sector. He said that vast reserves of coal were available in Pakistan and energy could be generated through coal. He said a suitable atmosphere for investment existed in Punjab and Chinese and Turkish companies were making investment worth billions of rupees. He stressed upon the investors of Poland to invest in Punjab and assured that complete protection would be provided to their investment.
Welcoming the delegation of Poland in Punjab, Shahbaz expressed his desire to benefit from the experiences and technology of Poland. He said Pakistan was facing serious challenge of extremism and terrorism but the nation was determined to eliminate the menace. He said 40,000 Pakistanis had sacrificed their lives in the war on terror.
The CM said the goal of development and prosperity of Pakistan could not be achieved without elimination of terrorism. He said that peace was essential for promotion of investment. He said that the nation was united against terrorism and expressed hope that it would succeed in making the country a haven of peace by eliminating extremism. He said all possible protection was being provided to the foreign investors, that is why, Chinese and Turkish companies were making huge investment here.
Shahbaz said a trade delegation would soon be sent to Poland to talks for seeking cooperation of Polish investors.
He said that former dictator Pervez Musharraf hade toppled the democratic government and sacked the judges. He said people of Pakistan, including lawyers, political workers and all segments of the society struggled for the restoration of the judiciary. He said that under the leadership of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, hundreds of thousands of people came on the roads for restoration of the judiciary and the rulers had to bow before the desires of the masses and judiciary was restored. He said Nawaz Sharif had played historic role for strengthening democratic system and promotion of democratic values.
The CM said capable leadership was essential for running the system and the present democratic system had totally failed in resolving the people’s problems. Chairman Senate of Poland Bogdan Borusewicz said Punjab was an important and big province of Pakistan; therefore, they had selected Punjab for their visit. He said Lahore was a historical city and important center of culture. He said economic and political changes were brought in Poland during the last 20 years and its economy had strengthened.
He said trade of only 250 million dollars between Pakistan and Poland was insufficient; therefore, both the countries would have to enhance their economic relations. He also welcomed the proposal of Punjab CM for sending trade delegation to Poland. He said exchange of maximum delegations would be useful for enhancing bilateral trade.
Ambassador of Poland in Pakistan, Andrzeg Ananicz said Poland and Punjab governments could extend cooperation in food processing, mines, technology, energy and agriculture sectors.
The delegation of Poland included Chairman Human Rights, Rule of Law & Petitions Committee Michal Sewerytiski, Senator and Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee Bogdan Adam Klich, Bartoez Bagowaki, Aleksander Jakimowicz, Bogdam Adam Margcewski, Andrzej Ananicz, Wieslaw Kucharek and Aftab Khokhar.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Special Assistant Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Pervaiz Malik, Dr Saeed Elahi, Hafiz Mian Muhammad Nauman, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Honorary Counsel General of Poland in Pakistan Shahbaz Khan, Chairman P&D and Chief Executive of Punjab Investment Board were also present.
