Farmers on Friday welcomed and demanded more increase in the wheat support price while flou rmill owners expressed dismay over price hike saying it will lead to costly flour for the masses.
The Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) welcomed the move of the federal government aiming at increasing the wheat support price by Rs 150 to Rs 1200 by 40 kg. KBP President Sardar Zafar Hussain asked farmers to grow wheat on maximum areas to make the country self-sufficient in production of grain.
On the other hand, flour mill owners led by Asim Raza Ahmad under the banner of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association and rival group led by Bilal Sufi strongly condemned the increase in the price.
They said it was a political decision and would have a far-reaching impact on the flour price and its availability to the masses.
The mill owners warned the price of a 20-kg flour bag would go as high as Rs 800 due to the increase in the price. Flour mill owners will not accept the decision, they said.
