SHC restrains police from confiscating brother’s property

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday restrained the Darakhshan police from taking any adverse action against a brother of Shahrukh Jatoi, an absconding accused in the Shahzeb Khan murder case, till further orders.

Shahzad Jatoi informed a single bench that the police registered a criminal case against his brother Shahrukh Jatoi and father Sikandar Jatoi, but they started harassing him and his other family members although he was not nominated in the case.

He complained that on the pretext of seizing Shahrukh’s property the police were trying to confiscate his and his other relatives’ properties, which, he said, was unlawful and amounted to the misuse of police powers.

The plaintiff said the police wanted to seal his property and other assets just to pressurise him. He also expressed apprehension about his arrest and likely seizure of his property.

Shahzad prayed to the single bench, headed by Justice Syed Farooq Mohammad Shah, to direct the police not to arrest him or his relatives not named in the case and to restrain them from confiscating properties that did not belong to his brother.

The single bench issued notices to the advocate general of Sindh, the SHO of the Darakhshan police station and others, and in the meantime restrained the police from taking any coercive action against the petitioner.
