Pak, Afghan officials discuss barriers installation issue

LANDIKOTAL: Pakistani and Afghan border authorities met on Wednesday to develop consensus over the installation of barriers at the Torkham Gate, official sources said.

A delegation of the Afghan National Army (ANA) led by Inayatullah Shinwari held talks with the Pakistani officials at the border. The Pakistani officials persuaded their Afghan counterparts to install barriers at the gate.

However, Afghan officials took some time to take formal approval from the high command of the Afghan army. Hundreds of passengers, trucks and other commuters suffered as the border remained closed during the meeting that lasted two hours. The Torkham Gate was removed for the construction of Pak-Afghan Road about five years ago.
