ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said his party would approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) with evidence against the federal and Punjab governments for their alleged misuse of taxpayers’ money for election campaign.
The task of evidence collection was given to former state minister and a senior PTI leader Ishaq Khaqwani. Imran was perturbed by massive media campaign by the two major parties; in particular a report stating that Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has diverted Rs15 billion for his constituency in the run-up to the elections, one of PTI leaders told The News.
Imran made this announcement here while talking to former MPA of PML-N Sikandar Ali Daultana, who is a close aide of senior PML-N leader Tehmina Daultana, Barrister Umair Wasi Zafar and Chaudhry Waqar Wasi Zafar. They both are sons of former law minister Wasi Zafar and have formally joined the PTI.
Imran said his party would seek disciplinary action from against the PPP and PML-N leadership, as both were misusing funds from the national exchequer for their election campaigns. It is pertinent that the other day the Election Commission barred the political parties and politicians from using the party tag or their images in ads.
Senior PTI leaders, including Jehangir Tareen, Naeem-ul-Haq, Ishaq Khaqwani and ex-MPA from Bahawalnagar Mian Mumtaz Moharwi were present on the occasion. “To create a new Pakistan, the nation will have to rise above all sorts of individual and communal differences to help Pakistan develop further in all fields. Pakistan can’t grow with the forces of status quo, who want to keep the people under-developed and illiterate,” he maintained.
Imran said he would soon launch the second phase of the mass contact drive during which he would address public gatherings in many districts. The new entrants to the party vowed to spread the message of Imran to motivate people to gear up for the real change.
