ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that it is not the time to present the philosophy of politics or the state as the ground realities are quite different.
He said that foreign elements were involved in terrorism in Pakistan and some “black sheep” within the country were supporting them.
He was talking to media persons here after his return from Peshawar where he attended funeral prayers of senior KP Minister Bashir Bilour who was killed in a suicide attack on Saturday.
The minister paid tributes to the slain minister and said that Bilour was a courageous man. He also praised the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as members of the ANP for the sacrifices they had made for the country.
The minister said that Ehsanullah Ehsan, spokesman for the TTP, was working for foreign elements and promoting an anti-state agenda. The findings would soon be shared with the media as well, he added.
Malik urged all the political parties to join hands against terrorism, keeping their various affiliations aside.
Malik said that Pakistan’s situation today was worse than it was in 1969 and 1971.
He noted that the leadership and workers of the ANP, PPP and MQM were being targeted by terrorists to create instability in the country.
Malik said the attacks on political leaders were part of a policy of the militants to silence their voice. Malik said his life was not more precious than Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and the soldiers.
He asked why the ANP and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were the target of terrorists. He said these were the very people who targeted defence installations and destroyed spy PC-3 Orion aircraft.
He said the TTP had become a limited company and was targeting innocent people, kidnapping for ransom and conducting dacoities. The minister said these people were against the solidarity and security of Pakistan and would have to be defeated. He said he had earlier warned that the top leadership of the country would be made the target of militant attacks and the Interior Ministry had issued an alert on December 19.
He said five days back, the TTP declared him their next target over FM Radio but he was not afraid of such threats. He said the terrorists wanted to impose their own system.
The minister said there was need for a thorough probe into the Peshawar tragedy and the federal government had dispatched experts for this purpose.
He said Tajiks were involved in the Peshawar airport attack but they could not carry out any action without local support.
He said a meeting of the heads of intelligence institutions was being called soon to gauge how the terrorists carry out their attacks despite advance information.
Malik demanded that Afghanistan must arrest Maulvi Faqir Mohammad and Fazlullah and hand them over to Pakistan. He made it clear that Pakistan would no more be ready to carry the dead bodies.
