QUETTA: A shutter down strike was observed in the provincial capital on Sunday to condemn Saturday’s suicide attack in Peshawar which claimed the life of senior minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour and eight others.
The strike was observed following the call of the ANP, Balochistan, and was supported by various politico-nationalist parties. All markets and business centres in Liaquat Bazaar, Prince Road, Jinnah Road, Shahra-e-Iqbal, Mission Road, Shawak Sha Road, Masjid Road, and Abdul Sattar Road remained closed throughout the day.
Traffic remained thin on the city’s streets. Heavy contingents of the police and law enforcement agencies were deployed to maintain law and order. However, no unpleasant incident was reported. The office bearers and activists of ANP staged protest demonstrations at Quetta, Musakhel, Harnai and other parts of Balochistan and strongly condemned the suicide attack. They chanted slogans against terrorism.
The ANP Balochistan president Aurangzeb Khan Kassi announced to observe three days of mourning over the killing of Bashir Ahmed Bilour and eight other activists of the party. The office bearers and activists of the ANP wore black bands on their arms.
