CHARSADDA: Residents of Safarkhel staged protest against the killing of a tractor driver by the employees of Town-II Chungi in Naguman area in Peshawar on Sunday.
Driver Rahimzada, resident of Safarkhel in Prang tehsil of Charsadda district, was carrying sugarcane to Khazana Sugar Mills in Peshawar when the employees of the Town-II Chungi in Naguman area exchanged harsh words with him and allegedly beat him up severely, leaving him critically injured. He was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, the residents of Safarkhel along with the relatives of the driver led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Abid Khan staged protest rally at Farooq Azam Chowk. They blocked the Charsadda-Peshawar road for some time.
The demonstrators chanted slogans against the ANP-led government and the contractor of the Chungi, while placing the driver’s body at the main square. Speaking on the occasion, Abid Khan and president of Kissan Union Faqir Hussain condemned the murder of the poor driver.
“The ANP government has now started killing the poor people and its vivid example is the killing of this poor driver by the employees of the contractor who has links with the ANP’s influential people,” Abid Khan said.
The speakers said they had already informed the officials of the Tehsil Municipal Administration in Peshawar about the ‘ghundaism’ on the Chungi set up solely to fleece the people of Charsadda. They added that the people of Charsadda were not prepared to pay any undue tax. They threatened to take further steps if the government did not take strict action against the accused involved in the killing of the driver.
