FAISALABAD: Thousands of workers and factory owners observed the black day in protest against the suspension of electricity to over 450 factories having capability to generate their electricity.
Despite heavy rain, over 15,000 factory workers gathered at Chowk Khurrianwala and chanted slogans against the Fesco.
They were carrying banners and placards, condemning the unwarranted action of the Fesco. Renowned industrialists, including Syed Omar Nazar Shah, Mian Faiq Javed, Imran Ghafoor, Mian Shaiq Javed, Hafeez Iqbal and over a dozen other mill owners also participated in the protest rally.
Later, the protesters marched towards Sahianwala Motorway at 10:30am.
The rally reached the Motorway at 3pm where the protesters held a protest meeting.
They vowed to continue their protest till the restoration of electricity to 450 factories and a cut in the loadshedding duration to the industry in Faisalabad.
Addressing the protesters, Syed Omer Nazar Shah and Mian Shaiq Javed said that disconnection of power to a large number of Faisalabad textile and ancillary industries had rendered a
large number of workers jobless.
They demanded the
government immediately restore connections to 450 factories and ensure round-the-clock power supply to the industry.
Later, they dispersed on a call from Islamabad that the Ministry of Water and Power had accepted their demand and restored the electricity to 450 industrial units.
