Muqam asks govt to form experts’ committee

BATKHELA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Amir Muqam has asked the government to constitute a committee of experts for studying merits and demerits of the Kalabagh dam project.

Addressing a public gathering here on Sunday, he said the committee could give expert advice on the benefits or harmful effects of the dam. “If the dam can damage any of the districts or region in the country, then the project should be shelved forever,” he said, adding that the country’s integrity was important, not Kalabagh or any other dam.

However, he lamented the rulers’ inability to initiate other projects during the last many years. “Those opposing the dam have not started alternative power generation projects including Basha dam,” he said.

The PML-N leader said his party would start mega power generation projects in Malakand division when elected to power. Criticising the flawed policies of the rulers, he said all the revenue generating sectors in the country were shrinking and causing joblessness and inflation. The infrastructure development should have been the priority of the government for improving economic activities, he said.

He said the Motorway would be extended to Kalam, Chitral and Dir to improve tourism sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
