May 12 mayhem being repeated: JI

Karachi

The Jamaat-e-Islami has said that the mayhem witnessed on May 12, 2007 in the city was being repeated again.

“Why are the citizens of Karachi being punished for the contempt of court notice issued by Supreme Court against Altaf Hussain?” JI Karachi Ameer Muhammad Hussain Mahenti asked the question in a statement issued on Sunday.

He said poor people and the daily wagers had been deprived of their bread and better by the closure of petrol pumps, clinics, medical stores, public transport, markets, fruits and vegetables markets and shops in the city.

Mahenti added MQM was trying to sabotage the SC verdict over anomalies in voters’ lists and pressuring the judiciary through its protests.

“Anti-judicial policies are being carried out using uncivilised language against the judiciary during protests”, he added. “The city and its people are being held hostage by terrorists while the government and the law enforcement agencies are silent spectators over the deteriorating law and order situation.”

Mahenti urged the media to inform the people about the real facts without fearing terrorists otherwise media would also be considered equally responsible in anti judiciary and anti-Karachi policies.

The JI Karachi ameer said everyone knew a partner of the ruling coalition was spreading terrorism in the city.

He demanded that the government should take notice of the conspiracies being hatched against the judiciary and to handle the terrorists with iron hands for the restoration of peace in the city.

He added the present government was equally responsible for the law and order situation, as it was supporting its coalition partner to destroy the peace of the city.
