Diplomatic community perturbed over Bilour’s killing

ISLAMABAD: The diplomatic community in the federal capital is extremely disturbed over the killing of Bashir Bilour, senior minister of Khyber-Pakhtookhwa, in a terrorist attack in Peshawar the other day, fearing whether it would be possible to hold peaceful polls in 2013.

The ambassadors/high commissioners and diplomats have in special dispatches to their respective countries discussed the implications of the high-profile assassination in the country of their posting.

Well-placed sources told The News on Sunday evening that the envoys of different countries have gathered details of the gory incident and have also secured the impressions of the people belonging to various shades of life.

The incident took place in the province that has taken the brunt of terrorists’ attacks.

The diplomatic dispatches are usually kept secret but this scribe had access to some which had also mentioned the situation in Karachi, Balochistan and the tribal areas. Some ambassadors and high commissioners are also planning to have interaction with Foreign Office for seeking briefing about the law and order situation in the country.

They are also concerned about their own safety and that of their staff and mission when electioneering would be in full swing.

It is likely that the Foreign Office would arrange such briefing early next month once the request reaches the officials concerned. The senior officials of the relevant ministry would also be asked to be present in the session.
