MARDAN: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti on Sunday said the police and security forces were rendering sacrifices to restore peace and protect the people.
“Some militants attacked the Bacha Khan Airport in Peshawar in a bid to damage the assets and occupy the airport, but they could not succeed due to the sacrifices of the police and security forces. I salute the cops and the soldiers,” he told a public gathering here.
The chief minister began his speech with offering Fateha for the slain cops and civilians and prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the attack. “May Allah give us the strength so that we could succeed in our mission and restore peace on our soil,” he prayed.
Haider Hoti believed Mardan district had been ignored in the past and said efforts were being made to develop it. “I appeal to all the leaders of political parties in Mardan to come forward and work for its progress and development,” he added.
He said efforts were underway to make necessary facilities available at all the mosques in Mardan so that the worshippers could offer prayers with devotion. “No one paid attention towards fulfilling the needs of the mosques. Allah gave us the strength to serve the places of worships,” he said.
He said he was not desirous of becoming the Member of the Provincial Assembly, but the people supported him and he was made the chief minister.The chief minister said he had approved Rs30 million for the church in Mardan that was destroyed during protest against a blasphemous movie produced in the United States.
He said that the reconstruction work on the church would start on December 25 as the Christians would be celebrating Christmas on that day. Haider Hoti said millions of rupees had been spent on uplift schemes in Cantonment area in Mardan. On the occasion, the chief minister announced Rs1.2 million for the repair of Masjid Quba in Mardan city.
