KARACHI: Young shooter Bilal Ahmed Khan, who won the gold medal in air pistol event in the recent National Games, has qualified for the World University Games 2013 to be held in Kazan, Russia, from July 6–17 next year.
“I am very happy that I have qualified for the games and I am determined to give my best performance there,” he said while talking to ‘The News’.
Bilal has played junior world shooting championship.
He also plans to participate in the South Asian Games next year in India, and is training hard to represent Pakistan at the next Olympics.
“My father who is also a professional shooter is my coach. And he is the one who helped me to excel in this sport,” said Bilal who represented the Higher Education Commission (HEC) at the national games.
To a question, he said the country had potential in this game, but people did not take it up because of the huge expenses involved.
“Then there are problems in the import of ammunition, and ban imposed on certain kind of equipment due to security reasons,” he added.
He suggested that the government should send players for international competitions and hire qualified coaches.
“Also, there are only three shooting ranges in Pakistan which is another hurdle. All shooting events of the National Games were held in Islamabad because there is no shooting range in Lahore,” said Bilal, who is a student of BBA.
