Six arrested in Nato consignment ‘theft’

LANDIKOTAL: Customs officials at the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham on Saturday seized two trucks and arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in the theft of Nato consignment, sources said.

The sources said that the officials took action on a tip-off and stopped two trucks (P-3230 and TKV-763) carrying auto batteries for Nato forces in Afghanistan.

During search, the officials found mud and cement bags in the containers instead of auto batteries worth $0.3 million loaded at the Nato terminal located on the Ring Road in Peshawar.

The sources said that the truckers had allegedly unloaded the auto batteries somewhere and refilled them with mud and cement bags. They said that six truckers and a customs clearance agent were arrested during the action.
