No row with anyone, says prime minister

LAHORE: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf Tuesday said that they have no row with anyone, and even the Pakistan People’s Party and Jamaat-e-Islami can sit together.

Addressing a mass wedding ceremony in which 50 couples tied the knot at the Governor House on Tuesday, the prime minister said the PPP politics and manifesto revolved around the downtrodden and the country’s riches were dependent on the welfare of the poor.

He said the impression that political parties and institutions were on a course of collision is not true.He said only the people had the right to give mandate to anyone and choose leaders of their choice. There is a need to rely on collective wisdom of all political parties and schools of thought to address problems being faced by the country.

Raja said a bleak picture in media about Pakistan is not an honest reflection as, he said the real face of Pakistan was not terrorism or extremism but a country enriched with peace-loving people and traditions.

The PM on the occasion presented Rs10,000 as a salami (wedding gift) to the couples. The ceremony was also attended by Federal Minister Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, Federal Minister Changez Jamali, former MNA Samia Raheel Qazi, MPA and Chairperson Ameer Begum Welfare Trust Rubina Shaheen Wattoo, Baitul Maal Pakistan Chairman Zamurrud Khan, PPP (Centre) General Secretary Tanvir Kaira, Begum Musarrat Khosa and others.

Meanwhile, the PM also visited the residence of former president Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Asma Jehangir and expressed condolence with her over the death of her mother.

APP adds: The prime minister said politics had also been misconstrued in the country, which he added, was meant for service to the masses only. “The PPP and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) share similar ideologies regarding service to the masses,” Raja said and added that such commonality could bring them closer.

Benazir Bhutto had a firm belief that it could lead to a prosperous Pakistan, he added. He said Pakistan was a beautiful land of traditions of self-sacrifice and service. The protection of human rights is imbibed in the culture of the country and the Punjabi Sufi poetry of Mian Muhammad Bakhsh teaches a message of protecting these rights at all costs, he added.
