No activity arranged at allied hospitals

Rawalpindi
The Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) and the three allied hospitals in town arranged no activity to create awareness among the public on various aspects of diabetes on World Diabetes Day, which is observed on November 14 every year.

Even Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), which is running a diabetic centre, Sughra Diabetic Centre, for over 18 years, arranged no activity to mark the day while administrations of Holy Family Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital too did not give any attention to the day.

World Diabetes Day passed on unnoticed in Rawalpindi that shows that none of the senior doctors in town is interested in creating awareness on the subject among the public nor the provincial government has been taking it as a grave concern despite the fact that over 12% of the country’s population is suffering from the disease and its complications.

Rawalpindi Medical College Principal and In-charge Allied Hospitals Professor Dr. Mohammad Mussadiq Khan, when contacted by ‘The News’ on Wednesday, said that the RMC did not arrange any activity on World Diabetes Day because the RMC students were busy in examinations.

He added that diabetes is a great concern and the allied hospitals should have arranged activities to mark the day. “Certainly, there is a need of creating awareness among public on the importance of prevention from the disease and it complications,” he said.Dr. Mussadiq added that by adopting healthy dietary habits, the disease can be avoided.
