SUKKUR: As many as 400 mourning processions on the martyrdom of Hazrat Abbas Alamdar were taken out amid tight security in Sukkur, Khairpur, Rohri, Hyderabad and other cities of the Sindh
Police and Rangers sealed off the procession routes ahead with barbed wires and those attending the processions were searched by Police, Rangers and scouts.Police sources said that the Rangers and police took into custody one suspect wearing a Pakistan Rangers uniform from the Karballa ground in Rohri town of Sukkur. Police and Rangers also cordoned off the mourning processions and maintained a high alert. The Sukkur administration has also imposed a ban on motorcycle riding in the vicinity of the procession areas. Mobile Service also reported suspended in areas of Sukkur and Khairpur.
In Hyderabad itself, Muharram proceedings in around 100 Imambargahs of Hyderabad city and adjoining areas were being taken out peacefully, amid tight security. The government imposed a ban on the motorcycle riding on roads for three days and strictly asked people to abide by the decision.
The SSP Hyderabad told reporters that motorcycles were used in most of the sabotage incidents; therefore, the use of motorbike was banned. He said terrorist groups had the ability to prepare improvised explosive devices and fit them into a motorcycle to target any place. The government has suspended mobile phone and wireless services in several districts as part of the precautionary security measures for Muharram.
Law enforcing agencies personnel have been deployed on the major roads, heading towards Imambargahs and sensitive points.
Syed Zawar Naqvi, President Anjuman-e-Qadamgah Mola Ali and caretaker of famous Tando Jahania Imambargah said: “Since majority of the Imambargahs has a traditional system that they are jointly run by the people belonging to major Sunni and Shia sects, there is no fear of experiencing such untoward incident.”
Niaz Chandio, in-charge of security volunteers at Al-Hussaini Imambargah, Chandio Goth, said they have association with seven neighboring Imambargahs, mostly in Qasimabad neighborhood.
Despite the ban on motorbikes, mourners have been using their bikes to reach their destinations (Imambargahs).
