Maulana Jamal Mian Farangi Mahali, a prominent leader of the Independence Movement, passed away here on Wednesday. He was 92.
He was the last surviving member of the All India Muslim League Working Committee and a close associate of Quaid-e-Azam, Nawab Ismail Khan and Raja Sahab of Mehmoodbad.
He was a recipient of Nishan-e-Imtiaz in recognition for his services during the Pakistan Movement.
Jamal Mian was the son of Maulana Abdul Bari (1878-1926) — one of the most famous Farangi Mahal scholars.
The author of 111 books, Bari was prominent in the Khilafat movement as well as in religious organisations such as Jamiat al-ulama-e-Hind.
He is survived by four son and three daughters. His eldest son — Ahmed Abdul Bari — is a prominent personality and well known in national sports circles.
He is currently serving as Vice President of the Karachi Golf Club as well as secretary of the Sindh Golf Association (SGA).
Jamal Mian’s burial will take place on Thursday (today) at the Gizri graveyard after Asr prayers.
