In the year’ second bank heist in the Shahrae Faisal police limits, five robbers walked off with Rs3.7 million in broad day light on Wednesday. This was also the 21st bank robbery of the year.
SDPO AL-Falah Division Muhammad Shakeel Awan Kiyani told The News that the armed men pulled up their Indus Corolla in front of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) COD Branch on Main Rashid Minhas Road at 9:15am. They stormed into the bank, overpowered two bank guards and snatched their weapons.
Holding the bank staffers and clients hostage at gunpoint, they went into the strong room along with the cashier and collected Rs3.7 million. According to the bank manager, the heist was executed within 10 to 15 minutes.
The robbers, who were well dressed, appeared to be in their mid-thirties.
Later, police teams and personnel of Special Investigation Unit reached the crime scene to gather evidence.
The bank manager, Syed Raza Muhammad, has lodged an FIR against unknown criminals.
The SDPO also said that there were no CCTV cameras installed in this bank. He added that the law required a bank to store only Rs1 million at its premises.
Kiyani also said that the security guards were not properly trained and were busy chatting when the incident took place.
On October 19, some armed men looted 2.5 million rupees from HBL on Main Rashid Minhas Road.
