IHC reserves verdict in Rimsha case

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman on Wednesday reserved the judgment on the petition to get the FIR quashed against Rimsha Masih allegedly implicated in the blasphemy of the Holy Quran.

Rimsha’s counsel Abdul Hameed told the court that his client was a juvenile and Imam Masjid Khalid Jadoon got an FIR registered against her under a plan. No one saw Rimsha burning the pages of the Holy Quran and later throwing them away. In the first report, these papers were described as papers from ‘Noorani Qaida’ but later these were described as pages from the Holy Quran.

He said that the plan was aimed at dispossessing the Christian community from the area. He prayed to the court to quash the FIR against his client. Abdul Aziz, the legal counsel for Khalid Jadoon, told the court that the case was based on facts. But the police officials and interior minister spoiled it. The police officials forced the witnesses to change their statements. He prayed to the court not to quash the FIR, and let the trial court proceed. The court, after listening to both the parties, reserved its judgment that is likely to be announced in a couple of days.
