Hindus celebrating Diwali with enthusiasm

SUKKUR: Hindu community is celebrating Diwali amid security concerns here and other districts, including Khairpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Shikarpur and all cities of the Upper Sindh.

In this connection the Mandirs (temples) were decorated on Wednesday with blue lights, fresh flowers and colourful buntings. Bhajans (religious songs) were being sung on loud speakers at Mandirs where people continued singing in chorus while clapping enthusiastically.

Every single house of the community shone with bright light, while candles and Diyas dotted the doorsteps. Youths celebrated the Diwali wearing new dresses and used fireworks.

Talking to The News a leader of the Hindu community Dr Dharam Pal said the Diwali was also known as the festival of lights. He said the community begins Diwali ceremonies with grand Pooja of Lakshmi. They are clad in elegant dresses and exchange boxes of sweets. He said there is always equal enthusiasm for Diwali among men, women, children and the old.

He said the firework on the occasion includes crackers in strings, Hawai and Pooljahri are children’s favourite.Dr Dharam Pal lauded the police for their role in maintaining peace and security during the Diwali functions.
