MINGORA: The CNG Association in Swat on Saturday announced to close down the gas stations from today in protest against the decision of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) regarding the reduction in the prices of the commodity.
“We cannot afford to provide CNG to the consumers at the current price,” the association said in a statement quoting its president Tahir Khan.
It said the owners of the CNG stations were bearing Rs23 per kilo loss and couldn’t afford to sell gas at the present rate.
“We respect the verdict of the Supreme Court. The Ogra and the government are bent on destroying our business and we are compelled to shut down the gas stations,” the statement added.
The government had slashed the CNG prices after the Supreme Court’s verdict in the CNG pricing formula case.
For region I, including Potohar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the CNG prices had been reduced by Rs30.90 to Rs61.64 per kilo.
However, the CNG station owners in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa refused to implement the SC verdict on one pretext or the other. The transporters have been charging the same fares despite claims by the officials to implement the SC verdict.
