CIA and ACLC bust five gangs

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of the Islamabad Police have busted five gangs and arrested 113 persons during last one month for their alleged involvement in robberies, snatching and lifting vehicles, frauds and recovered 29 cars, stolen items worth Rs3.7 million, two motorbikes, 23 pistols and gold ornaments from their possession.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Inspector General of Police (Islamabad) Bani-Amin Khan said that SP (Investigation) Mustansar Hussain Feeroz was assigned the special task to solve crime cases of heinous nature. He, along with various police teams, including DSP Zubair Ahmed Sheikh, sub-inspectors Asghar Ali Bhatti, Shamas ul Akbar, Zulfiqar Ahmed, Muhammad Ali, Gulzar Ahmed, ASIs Tariq Rauf, Zafar Iqbal, Riaz Macon, Syed Haider Ali Shah, Abdul Hafeez and Javed Iqbal, accomplished the task and busted five gangs allegedly involved in burglaries, car thefts, selling diesel and petrol of official vehicles, possessing fake foreign currency and drug-pushing activities.

The CIA Police teams recovered gold ornaments, Rs3.76 million, three stolen vehicles, two motorbikes, laptop computers, amplifiers, digital cameras, television sets, eight mobile phones, generator, UPS, mobile cards, 845 litres of diesel, 230 litres of petrol, fake US dollars, 25 fake driving and weapon licenses, 23 pistols, 3.675 kilograms of hashish, 432 wine bottles, 650 liquor bottles, seven drums of liquor and 12 cartons of beer from the nabbed persons.

Meanwhile, the teams of Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of Islamabad Police arrested 33 carjackers and recovered 26 stolen cars from their possession worth millions of rupees. Out of these 26 stolen cars, eight cars were lifted from the jurisdictions of various police stations of Islamabad.

Flanked by SSP (Islamabad) Yaseen Farooq and SP Mustansar Feeroz, the IGP said that the crime rate had reduced in capital during the current year and no incident of terrorism occurred, reflecting the hard work of policemen committed to secure the lives of citizens. He said that robbery and car theft incidents had also reduced.

He said that the CIA and ACLC have been revamped recently with the appointment of well-reputed officers and their performance is satisfactory so far. Various ACLC teams have been sent to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and raids are being conducted from Battagram to Dera Ismail Khan to arrest carjackers and ‘receivers’ of stolen cars.

Bani-Amin Khan said that the ratio of car theft incidents has reduced in Islamabad during the current year and efforts are underway to trace the criminals involved in various kidnapping cases.

To a question, the Islamabad Police chief said that Heli Unit has been constituted, while 40 policemen of the Anti-Terrorist Squad are being provided with training for effective vigilance through the use of helicopter.

Regarding security arrangements during Muharram, Bani-Amin Khan said that the Islamabad Police were ready to ensure implementation of the elaborate security plan this year with the assistance of Rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC).

The IGP said that it is the prime responsibility of police to ensure protection to the life and property of citizens and they would leave no stone unturned to accomplish this task. He also appreciated the efforts of CIA Police as well as Anti-Car Lifting Cell teams and gave cash prizes and commendation certificates to policemen who performed well.

Later, the IGP handed over the keys of recovered vehicles to their owners, who appreciated the Islamabad Police for their outstanding performance.
