Aisam, Rojer lose first match of World Tour


KARACHI: The seventh seeds Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean Julien Rojer lost their first match in the Group A of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London on Tuesday.

They were defeated by the third seeds Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek 4-6, 5-7 in the round of 16.

Total service points Aisam-Rojer won were 38/58 (66 percent) and 16/60 (27 percent) return points.

This is Aisam’s second participation in the tours, but he has a new partner this time.

In 2011, Aisam played this tournament in partnership with India’s Rohan Bopanna and lost all three matches in the initial round. Aisam was the first Pakistani to play the Word Tours.

This year Bopanna has partnered with Mahesh Bhupathi.

It is to be noted here that any round robin match win has 200 points, semifinal win 400 and final 500. An undefeated champion gets 1500 points.

According to the format, all players play three round-robin matches against rivals in their group to determine a winner and runner-up from each group, who advance to the knockout stage of the tournament. Aisam-Rojer are fourth seeded in the Group A.
