Khan Khwar power project
BISHAM: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice-President Amir Muqam on Tuesday announced that he would file a writ petition in the Peshawar High Court as he believed the government has not honoured the pledge to provide electricity to the local population from the Khan Khwar hydropower project.
“We have decided to move the court of law in the next two days as the prime minister and the chief minister could not materialise the pledges made to the locals at the time of inaugurating the project,” he told a press conference.
PML-N district president Intikhab Alam, general secretary Khalilur Rahman, Shereenzada, former nazim Mohammad Tahir Khan and others were present. The PML-N leader said the locals had suffered huge losses as their cultivable land had become barren due to the project.
“The Water and Power Development Authority had signed an agreement on the instructions of the prime minister to establish a gridstation and cadet college in Bisham. The authority under the agreement was also bound to give jobs to the local youth and compensate the residents for their losses,” he recalled.
“We will also ask the court to direct the government to deposit the income generated from the Khan Khwar project in a separate bank account until and unless the agreement is implemented in letter and spirit,” he said.
