PESHAWAR: Head of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed grief over the demise of former Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad and said the nation had lost a brave and honest leader.
“Qazi Sahib was not only a leader of the JI, but I also considered him my leader. He was a true Muslim and a patriotic Pakistani. He struggled throughout his life for enforcement of Islamic system in the country,” Nawaz Sharif said after offering fateha for the departed soul of the deceased.
He was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, senior vice-president Amir Muqam, provincial president Pir Sabir Shah, Khwaja Mohammad Khan Hoti and Arbab Khizr Hayat.
Nawaz Sharif said Qazi had close relations with him as well as his father Mian Mohammad Sharif. Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said every leader and worker of PML-N had been grieved like the activists of JI over the death of Qazi Hussain Ahmad. “The entire country is sad. It is no doubt a big loss,” he added.
Nisar Ali Khan said Qazi was a man of honour and respect. He said the PML-N had recommended his name for acting prime minister slot but he had declined to become the acting premier.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistan visited the residence of Qazi Hussain Ahmad to express condolence with his son and JI leaders. The delegation led by Afghan leader Mohammad Farid also read a message of the head of the Hizb-e-Islami, Gulbadin Hikmatyar. The Afghan leader in his written message said that Qazi was a thorn in the eyes of the imperialist forces and he was a true leader of the Islamic movements across the world. He said his demise was a great loss for the entire Ummah.
He said the entire Afghan nation ha been saddened by the demise of Qazi, who sincerely supported the Afghan refugees during the USSR aggression. The Afghan nation would never forget him, he said in the message.
