Inviting army to support long march unconstitutional, says Kaira

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Tuesday said it was unconstitutional and dangerous to call the army for the support of long-march. He said the people would never support any unconstitutional demand of any individual as it would be treacherous.

“Holding of public processions and debates is a constitutional right, however, no one will be allowed to breach the law,” the minister said, while talking to media persons after attending the birthday celebration of Pakistan Baitul Mal Chairman Zamurd Khan held at the Pakistan Sweet Home.

The event also marked the enrolment of around a dozen girls in the Sweet Home as previously the facility has been housing boys only. To a question about the announcements by the government’s coalition partners, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Pakistan Muslim League-Q, to support Dr Tahirul Qadri’s long march, he said they were still part of the government.

However, he said the Chaudhry brothers had old ties with Dr Qadri and had announced to extend support to him for electoral reforms, which had always been demanded by all the parties.

He said around two and a half months were left in the tenure of the government. However, the government and the assemblies would complete their constitutional term.Welcoming Dr Qadri back in the country, Kaira said it was pleasing to see the book of constitution in the hand of a religious scholar, which had never been seen in the past.
