A POLICE driver was killed by a speeding car in the Shadman area on Tuesday.
Victim Azam served as a driver of the Rang Mahal DSP and hailed from Madina Colony, Walton Road. Police said he was on his way on his bike when a recklessly driven car hit and injured him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have arrested the car driver, identified as Akhtar.
RANSOM: The family of a kidnapped child reportedly paid Rs 5 million ransom to his kidnappers before the child was released.
The family paid the ransom without the knowledge of police. Two-and-a-half-year old Ali Muhammad, son of Muhammad Shahzad, a resident of Chahpar Stop, Samanabad, was kidnapped by unidentified bike riders. However, police claimed that they would soon arrest the kidnappers.
FIRE: Household items worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a house near Ganga Ram Hospital on Tuesday.
Cause of the fire was stated to be short circuit. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a store in the Mustafabad area due to short circuit. Firefighters extinguished fire after hectic efforts in both incidents.
TICKETED: The city traffic police issued tickets to 5,814 vehicles on violation of route permits and 9,419 vehicles on smoke emitting charges in 2012.
About 382 vehicles were issued tickets for not having fitness certificates and 36,955 vehicles were issued tickets on overloading charges in 2012.
Similarly, the police issued tickets to 24,525 vehicles on overloading charges and 2,789 vehicles for not covering sand, garbage and other polluted goods.
IMPERSONATOR: Shalimar police have arrested a woman for impersonating MPA and seized fake letters of CM’s Secretariat from her possession.
She was identified as Raheela Khadam Hussain.
Robbers arrested: Chung investigation police have arrested six robbers involved in various crimes of heinous nature.
The arrested robbers were identified as Talib, Ejaz, Arif, Waseem, Nazam and Naveed.
security: Lahore police have finalised security arrangements in connection with the long march called by Pakistan Awami Tehrik leader Tahirul Qadri.
It is learnt that around six police vehicles will escort the participants of the long march in the limits of Lahore police.
POLICE VEHICLES: The CCPO, Lahore, handed over 57 vehicles to 57 police stations on Tuesday.
According to the CCPO, the vehicles have been given to those police stations where there is surge in crime rate.
BOOKED: Kahna police registered a case against eight persons on electricity theft charges on Tuesday.
The case was registered on the complaint of Humza Town Wapda sub-division SDO.
ARRESTED: A special squad has arrested three persons on theft charges and recovered construction material from them.
The arrested accused were identified as Faryad Ali, Asghar Ali and Chand.
The special squad has been formed by the Mujahid SP to ensure safety of machinery and other construction material being used in Metro Bus Rapid Transit.
Motorists: Fog is natural occurrence beyond human control but harm to human life and valuables can be prevented by adopting enhanced precautionary measures.
This was said by National Highways and Motorway Police N-5 Central DIG Rai Altaf Hussain while directing the motorway police officers of central zone to make extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of road users during foggy season. He said the motorway police patrol officers should perform their duties with devotion and professionalism as accident ratio could go up during fog and criminal elements could also take advantage of poor weather conditions.
