President Asif Ali Zardari, who arrived in the city on Saturday night, spent a busy day at Bilawal House on Sunday. He held two separate meetings and discussed the obtaining political situation in the province with the PPP leaders as well as with the Sindh governor.
The first meeting was held with Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, which was also attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Sources said that it was not a scheduled official meeting during which the governor and the chief minister briefed the president about the recent political developments in the province.
According to the sources, Ebad briefed Zardari about the MQM’s protest in urban areas of Sindh against the legal notice issued to the party chief Altaf Hussain. All major cities remained closed on Saturday, as the MQM workers also staged a strong protest on Sunday.
The president discussed with the governor about the obtaining political situation, particularly after the protest rally held by the PML-F with the support of the Sindhi nationalists that criticised the MQM, a major ally of the PPP.
Ebad briefed Zardari about the successful protests of the MQM that were held on Friday in Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Sukkur and other cities of the province.
The president held another meeting with the party leaders at Bilawal House and discussed the arrangements being made for the party rally to be held on December 27 on the fifth death anniversary of PPP leader Benazir Bhutto.
Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, PPP ministers Agha Siraj Durrani, Pir Mazharul Haq, Syed Murad Ali Shah, women wing chief Faryal Talpur MNA, Senator Islamuddin Shaikh, federal minister Mola Bux Chandio, Rafiq Engineer and Ejaz Jhakrani also called on the president on Sunday and briefed him about the arrangements being made for the party’s public meeting in Larkana.
Sources said that Zardari directed the party leaders to show the party strength at the Larkana public meeting since it will be the first public meeting of the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
