Why Glasses Are Important When You Go Fishing

Fishing is more than just a sport; it is a passion for those anglers who do it day in and day out as an act of pleasure. Professional anglers are known to even lose track of time and spend hours altogether on the lake or riverfront trying to bait their catch. While such anglers obviously come fully prepared for a day in the sun and surf, the most important part of their kit is not their fishing hook or bait, but instead their fishing glasses.

Right glasses: An angler's best friend
There are numerous reasons why fishing enthusiasts should not go fishing without a good pair of polarized fishing glasses. The most obvious reason is the high intensity glare that tends to bounce of the water, especially around midday. This strong glare can reduce an angler's vision considerably, as he can no longer see, even under shallow water, making it difficult for him to cast his line.
Second, along with glare come the harsh UV rays of the sun that can do utmost damage to an angler's eyes, should he not be wearing special eyeglasses to prevent this. Thirdly, eye glasses while fishing are very important from the safety point of view, as fishing is an accident prone pursuit, wherein your partner's fishing hook might hit your eye while angling or vice versa.

Finding the right pair
Specialized fishing glasses come in many makes, models and with loads of features. While choosing one, it is important to first consider the frame. Go in for a frame that is light, smooth and has a comfortable fit. It would help greatly if it has a soft rubber nose pad and comes in a wrap around style; as such glasses offer maximum eye coverage and tend to stay in place. It is advisable to buy fishing glasses that come attached to a lanyard as the angler can then take them off once in a while without dropping them in water.
Choosing the right lens is slightly trickier, as here you have two options. First, glass lenses that offer excellent visual clarity and are scratch resistant. However, since these are bound to be pretty expensive and heavy, anglers often consider the second and more popular option of polycarbonate or plastic sunglasses. These sunglasses are light, less expensive and come in loads of color options. Their downside is that they scratch easily.
Today, most sporting goods stores sell both kinds of fishing glasses. Irrespective of which one you decide to buy, ensure it is of great quality and comes in a handy case that can fit snuggly in your fishing kit.
