TIP to monitor PTA's 3G bidding process


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) have signed a memorandum of understanding for transparent bidding of 3G technology auction.

Chairman PTA Farooq Awan and Chairman TIP Sohail Mazhar signed the MoU (Integrity Pact) here on Friday.

Federal Finance Minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh who was also present on the occasion said the Integrity Pact would ensure more transparency in the auction of 3G technology in the country.

He said that proper rules and regulations would be followed in the bidding process.

The minister said that use of modern technology was necessary for stable economy and generating more job opportunities in the market.

He said that 3G technology is an important project to revolutionize the communication technology in the country.

Dr. Hafeez Shaikh said that a four member committee comprising of federal ministers with Farooq H. Naik in the chair had been constituted on the advise of Prime Minister to make strategies in order to bring more efficiency and transparency in the government organizations.

The committee, he said will consult civil society organizations, National Accountability Bureau, Public Account Committee, Chambers of Commerce, Securities Commission of Pakistan, Competition Commission of Pakistan, registrars of all courts and various other organizations working at the provincial level for the better understanding of issues and evolving coordination.
