Pakistan claim wrestling trophy

PESHAWAR: Pakistan lifted the overall trophy of the Bacha Khan International Peace Wrestling Championship by grabbing four gold medals, one silver and two bronze here at the indoor hall of the PSB Coaching Center on Sunday.

Pakistan’s Azhar Hussain won the gold medal in the 55kg. The Commonwealth Game medalist shocked Prince Arora of India.

Basharat took gold in 60kg weight against Afghanistan’s promising wrestler Kabi Rahimi.

Usman Majeed, the Rustam-e-Pakistan, upset Wakeel Hussain of Afghanistan in the 96kg medal fight.

In the 120kg weight category Muhammad Zaman, the champion of Pakistan, defeated Hameed Khanzada of Afghanistan to grab the gold medal.

Pakistan’s Ghulam Hasan was beaten by Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmadi in the 84kg weight category.

Pakistan took bronze medal in 66kg where Indian Visal Sing took the gold medal and Afghanistan Baba Jan Ahmadi claimed the silver medal.

In the 74kg category an Afghanistan wrestler took the gold medal and India took the silver.

Afghanistan trailed behind Pakistan on the second position with gold in 74kg and 84kg, silver in 60kg, 66kg, 96kg and120kg weights and bronze medal in 55kg.

India came third by taking gold in 66kg, silver in 55kg and 74kg and bronze in 60kg and 84kg.

Sri Lanka claimed bronze medals in 55kg, 60kg, 66kg, 74kg, 96kg, and 120kg to grab the fourth position. Bangladesh got the fifth place with bronze medals in 84kg, 96kg, and 120kg.
