ISLAMABAD:
The government has increased the gas tariff to Rs43 per MMBTU, up by
Rs6, for the domestic sector — a New Year’s gift for the people to
celebrate.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has issued the notification in this regard. The rise in tariff will be effective from today, January 1, 2013.
According to the notification, the gas tariff has been increased by Rs6.14 per MMBTU to Rs106.14 from Rs100 per MMBTU for domestic consumers who consume gas of 100 cubic meters per month. The tariff has been raised by Rs12.28 per MMBTU to Rs212.28 from Rs200.00 per MMBTU for consumers who utilise 300 cubic meters gas in one month at their homes, and up by Rs30.69 per MMBT to Rs530.69 from Rs500.00 per MMBTU for gas consumers consuming above 300 cubic meters.
Mosques, Imambarghas churches, temples, Madaris and other religious places have been exempted from the increase in gas tariff which is extended to the domestic sector.
The gas tariff has been increased for commercial consumers by up to Rs36.83 per MMBTU, industrial consumers by Rs28.23 per MMBTU, CNG by 37.96 per MMBTU, cement factories by Rs42.97 per MMBTU, fertiliser sector by Rs7.14 per MMBTU and power sector by Rs28.23 per MMBTU.
Similarly, the new gas tariff for commercial consumers and ice factories will be at Rs636.83 per MMBTU. The tariff for Pak Steel, the power sector and CNG will stand at Rs656.52 per MMBTU, cement factories at Rs742.97 per MMBTU and the industrial sector Rs488.23 per MMBTU.
