ISLAMABAD: A panel of the National Assembly on Monday unanimously decided to write a letter to the Speaker National Assembly against Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and other top officials of economic and revenue divisions for not attending the committee meetings. Stern action has also been proposed against them.
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue also directed the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) to furnish tax details of judges, generals and bureaucrats in grade 21 and 22 in the next meeting to ascertain who was living beyond his means in the context of the ongoing debate that was generated after disclosure of tax details of parliamentarians.
On the issue of disclosures of tax details of parliamentarians by the Investigative Reporter of The News Umar Cheema, the committee asked the FBR to table the findings of the inquiry report within the next 10 working days.
“We will recommend stern and maximum action against the finance minister, secretary finance and chairman FBR in our letter written to the NA Speaker,” Chairman NA Panel Khawaja Sohail Mansoor said while chairing the committee’s meeting here at the Parliament House. The committee recommended the government to waive off penalty for filing income tax returns till January 15, 2013.
