Karachi
Deputy Convener of the Coordination Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Dr Farooq Sattar has said that the MQM did not bow before any oppressive force in the past and the struggle for truth and justice would continue. “The struggle of the MQM is motivated by the welfare of the people of Pakistan and progress for the country instead of merely acquiring political power.”
He expressed these views while addressing a large gathering at the Jinnah Ground in Azizabad on the occasion of the Martyrs Day that is observed by the MQM on December 9 each year, said a statement issued on Sunday.
Dr Sattar said that the changing of electoral constituencies and verification of voters in Karachi alone were conspiracies to subvert the mandate of the MQM.
Paying glowing tributes to the martyrs of the MQM, Dr Sattar demanded that their killers should be brought to justice. He said that the MQM had faced innumerable hardships in the past but it continued its struggle unstoppably, adding: “It is our firm resolve even today that we would not surrender before the forces of oppression and continue our struggle”.
Speaking earlier, member Coordination Committee Raza Haroon said that the leaders like Altaf Hussain were not born every day, adding, “We pay tribute to our martyrs and resolve that we would not let the immortal sacrifices rendered by our martyrs to go in vain”.
Haroon said that thousands of workers had given their lives for the just struggle of the MQM that also includes the blood of the brother and the nephew of Altaf Hussain.
Meanwhile, Dr Farooq Sattar, Senator Mrs Nasreen Jalil, Anis Ahmed Qaimkhani, Dr Nusrat Shaukat and Altaf Hussain’s sister Mrs Saira Khatoon visited the monument built at the Jinnah Ground in memory of the martyrs of the MQM and laid floral wreaths. Other members of the committee, MQM parliamentarians and office-bearers of different wings of the MQM were also present on the occasion. They offered prayers for the martyrs and for the success of the just struggle of the MQM. They also prayed Allah to give patience to the relatives of the martyrs and for the freedom of the incarcerated workers.
