PESHAWAR: The fresh spell of rain and snowfall continued intermittently in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday creating difficulties for the people who suffered not only due to the chilly weather but also the long electricity breakdown and low gas pressure.
The rain started late Thursday in Peshawar and continued intermittently the whole day on Friday.
Rainwater inundated low-lying areas. Rainwater was seen flowing on roads and chocking the drainage system. Pools of water were seen at the Lahori Gate Chowk, Sabz Pir Road, Gunj Gate, Shuba Chowk, main Zaryab Colony Road, the chowk near the Tabligh Markaz on the Pajjagi Road and other places. This created problems for the motorists.
Since morning the provincial capital received 16 millimetres of rain, Balakot one, Chitral two and a half, Timergara 16, Cherat 20, Malam Jabba 22, Saidu Sharif 16, Pattan 15 and Kakul eight millimeters till filing of this report.
Though the Met office, as usual, did not entertain any inquiry phone calls about weather forecast, the Pakistan Air Force weather forecast centre predicted more rain. However, it said the weather would remain clear today.
The hilly areas of Hazara and Malakand divisions received snowfall along with rainfall.
MANSEHRA: Mansehra and other parts of Hazara received heavy downpour and snowfall. The rain which started Thursday evening in Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan and Torghar districts continued intermittently the entire day on Friday. Many link roads were blocked in the region because of the heavy snowfall and landsliding caused by the heavy rains. The rain and snowfall caused increase in the fuel and firewood prices.
Rain and snowfall was also reported from Abbottabad district. It snowed in the Galliyat and affected normal activities of life.
Rain and snowfall was reported from most areas of Malakand division. In Swat is rained continuously and the snowfall covered the mountainous areas. In some parts of upper Swat such as Kalam, the snowfall was heavy and restricted the people to their homes.
LANDIKOTAL: A heavy snowfall covered all the mountains. The snowfall started at 8am Friday morning and continued for 12 hours. The mercury level dropped, which forced the people to remain indoors. Some people believed it was the heaviest snowfall in the last 50 years.
