LAHORE
The Lahore High Court on Friday suspended termination of 10 employees of Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (Pida) and sought reply from managing director of the authority.
Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan issued this order on a petition moved by Nadir Khan and nine others working for a Pida’s project for improvement of Lower Bari Doaab.
They submitted that contract employees of Pida had approached the LHC for regularisation of their services and the court had restrained the Punjab government from taking any adverse action including termination against them till the final decision of the main case. But, the department had issued their termination letters because their contracts were going to be expired on December 31, they submitted and added that termination letters were issued in violation of LHC orders. They requested the court to declare null and vide the termination orders.
