Altaf for decisive battle against terrorists

Karachi

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday called for a decisive battle against terrorism, and asked the military to give up “expediencies and show trust in the nation”.

“It is the need of the hour that the entire nation gets united against the scourge of terrorism. We should get ready to fight a decisive battle against terrorism with the armed forces of Pakistan,” he said in a statement.

Hussain deplored the suicide attack that resulted in the death of senior ANP leader and provincial minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour along with police personnel and other party workers and sympathisers in Peshawar.

He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of people who lost their loved ones in the deadly attack.

The MQM founder said innocent people were being killed in suicide attacks and even women polio vaccinators were being brutally killed by armed terrorists.

He appealed to “the heads of the armed forces to give up expediencies and show trust in the nation that wants to establish peace, brotherhood, equality, unity and order in the country”.

A comprehensive strategy should be formulated against the terrorists as soon as possible and it should be executed without any further delay, Hussain suggested.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to shower His blessings on the martyrs and give courage and patience to the bereaved family members.

Altaf phones Asfandyar

Altaf Hussain telephoned ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan and offered his condolences over the death of Bashir Bilour.

He said the sacrifices of martyrs would not be in vain and would save the nation from extremism.

Hussain reiterated that it was high time the armed forces of Pakistan launched a decisive war against the terrorists.

“Terrorists have claimed responsibility for this tragic incident. These elements have already said that whoever stands in their way will be their enemy; particularly the ANP and the MQM are their targets.”

He said both parties would have to sit together to take joint decisions in the larger interest of the country.

“We are brothers. Our enemies are conspiring to make us fight against each other. Instead of fighting against each other, we should fight our fight against our common enemy,” Hussain said.

Speaking to Hussain, the ANP leader said he valued his sentiments and would convey those sentiments to the families of the martyrs.

He said, “You have shared our grief in this difficult time which has given us strength. I fully agree with you that the entire Pakistani nation, the armed forces, the MQM, and the ANP must sit together for defeating terrorism.”

Wali demanded of President Asif Zardari to devise an effective strategy for eliminating terrorism.

ANP condemns killing

The Sindh chapter of the Awami National Party (ANP) condemned the murder of senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour and others in a suicide attack in Peshawar on Saturday.

ANP Sindh leadership termed the assassination of Bilour, who called the fight against terrorism ‘our own battle’, a national loss.

ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed said that like Bilour, every worker of the ANP would sacrifice his life for the country because all of them were like Bilour, Yar Zamin Khan, Afzal Khan and Mian Iftikhar Hussain who paid a huge price for protecting Pakistan from militants.

Syed said Bilour was a ‘martyr of humanity’ and the ANP was fighting against the elements working against Islam and Pakistan.

“Bilour’s killing is a national loss and tragedy, as leaders like him are capable of steering the masses away from the crisis of extremism,” he added.

He said ANP’s supporters would always be seeking guidance from Bilour’s struggles, principles and sacrifices.

The slain leader led his political life with unmatched show of courage, bravery and integrity, the ANP Sindh chief added.

PTI chief condemns blast

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman condemned the suicide blast in Awami National Party’s workers meeting in Peshawar on Saturday. Imran Khan grieved the resultant murder of senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour and seven other people, including Bilour’s personal secretary and a station house officer.

He condemned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which has claimed responsibility for the attack, and their approach of violence as a weapon to achieve their goals.

He said the government had failed in controlling the law and order situation in the country, which was evident from the Peshawar incident.

He expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying that his party valued Bilour’s efforts for peace in the country and his war against terrorism.

He prayed for the repose of the souls that were lost in the incident and commiserated with their families. He also prayed for speedy recovery of the wounded.
