6 Sindh MPAs quit over dual nationality

KARACHI: After failing to come up with the affidavits testifying they were not dual nationality holders, six members of the Sindh Assembly including 4 ministers have resigned, Geo News reported.

The Speaker Sindh Assembly, after accepting the resignations, has sent them to the Election Commission.

According to Geo News correspondent, Tariq Moin, resignations of Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Raza Haroon, Mohammad Ali Shah, Askari Taqwi and Abdul Mueed and Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Murad Ali Shah and Sadiq Memon have reached Speaker’s table.

Provincial Election Commissioner, Sono Khan Baloch, later confirmed that speaker Sindh Assembly had accepted all the resignations before sending them to the Election Commission.

However, according to sources, the said MPAs did not make it clear in their resignations whether they were quitting over dual nationality issue.

It must be mentioned here that the Election Commission of Pakistan’s deadline for filing affidavits expired on Friday, November 30. As many as 16 lawmakers from the national and provincial assemblies had failed to file their affidavits.
