THEFT of cars, bikes and other vehicles increased by 20.2 percent in the provincial metropolis as around 833 such cases have been reported from January 1 to November 15, 2012 as compared to 693 incidents during the corresponding period last year.
In other words, around two to three persons are deprived of their vehicles each day in the provincial metropolis. Lahore police observed at least a 31.53 percent increase in incidents of bike theft this year as 709 bikes were taken away from January 1 to November 15, 2012, whereas 539 were stolen during the corresponding period of 2011. Civil Line division police observed a 85.29 percent raise in bike snatching, Iqbal Town Division 50 percent increase in carjacking, 67.07 percent raise in bike theft and 50 percent increase in other vehicles’ snatching from January 1 to November 15, 2012.
Similarly, Cantt Division police observed 20.89 percent increase in bike theft, City Division police 19.54 percent raise in bike theft and Model Town Division police saw 62.35 percent increase in the incidents of bike theft during the same period of 2012. As per details, Iqbal Town Division had 12 incidents of carjacking, 137 of bike theft and three incidents of other vehicles’ snatching during January to November of 2012 whereas eight incidents of carjacking, 82 of bike theft and two incidents of other vehicles’ theft reported during the corresponding period of 2011.
Around 15 cases of carjacking, 138 of bike theft and 11 of other vehicles’ theft were reported with Model Town Division police from January 1 to November 15, 2012 while 25 incidents of car snatching, 85 cases of bike snatching and eleven cases of other vehicles’ snatching during the same period of 2011. In Sadar Division police, around 51 cases of car snatching, 131 cases of bike snatching and 13 cases of other vehicles’ snatching were reported from January 1 to November 15, 2012, whereas 58 incidents of carjacking, 138 bike snatching and 18 cases of other vehicles’ snatching were reported during the corresponding period of last year. Around two incidents of carjacking and 63 incidents of bike theft were reported in Civil Line Division police during the under review period of 2012 whereas six incidents of carjacking and 34 of bike theft were reported during the corresponding period of 2011.
In Cantt Division police, around seven incidents of carjacking, 81 of motorcycle and six incidents of other vehicles’ theft were reported from January 1 to November 15, 2012, whereas eight incidents of carjacking, 67 of bike and eight incidents of other vehicles’ theft were reported during the corresponding period of 2011. At least 159 incidents of bike theft and three of other vehicles’ theft were reported in City Division police from January 1 to November 15, 2012, while 133 incidents of bike theft and three of other vehicles’ snatching were reported during the corresponding period of 2011.
Meanwhile, The Lahore Investigation Wing completed investigation of 35 percent cases of carjacking, 45 percent cases of bike theft and 53 percent cases of other vehicles’ theft from January 1 to November 15, 2012. Sadar Investigation Division police completed probe into 74 percent cases of carjacking, 39 percent cases of bike theft and 33 percent cases of other vehicles’ snatching. Civil Line Investigation Division police completed investigation of 46 percent cases of bike snatching. Iqbal Town Investigation police completed investigation of 50 percent cases of carjacking, 46 percent cases of bike theft and 100 percent cases of other vehicles’ snatching. Cantt Investigation Division police completed investigation of 71 percent cases of carjacking, 46 percent cases of bike snatching and 33 percent cases of other vehicles’ snatching. City Investigation Division police completed investigation of 54 percent cases of bike theft. Model Town Investigation Division police completed investigation of 40 percent cases of carjacking, 41 percent of bike snatching and 73 percent cases of other vehicles’ snatching.
