Here I am again dating in my 30's. My story is quite simple, I was married at 18 while lonely on active duty in the Army. After 7 years of marriage, we divorced and remained the best of friends. Shortly thereafter I begain what would turn out to be an 8 year domestic partnership with a co-worker. We estentially had little in common and would break up and remain friends.
As I sat on my couch contimplating whether or not I wanted to actively take a role in finding a new prospective boyfriend or just late fate take over, I opted for the active role in my own matchmaking. I mean, with all the technology that has evolved with the internet and cell phones, how difficult could it be to meet and talk with new friends? I was in for a whirlwind of a learning experience in the new technological based dating scene.
My first stop was a facebook dating site. It seemed simple enough, add a picture here, add a little information there, such as what I am seeking in a mate and voilla, my potential mates popped up. Excitement and anticipation at the possibilites quickly took over. I began chatting with one after the other, but to my dismay nothing clicked. I even exchanged cell phone numbers with a few. Soon my cell phone was lighting up like a christmas tree being inendated with pictures of these new chat friends. This is where things began to get weird.
The first picture in a series of pictures were actually x-rated and many of the rest were men posing without shirts. I quickly reviewed my dating profile hoping that nothing indicated that a sexual relationship was desired. I read and re-read it, nothing even remotely indicated that my intent was finding something strictly physical. Since when had our society become so sexually charged to the point where we are showing our most intimate body parts before actually having a conversation or at least a long chat with someone?
Dating with the assistance of technology was going to be trying to say the least. I quickly deleted my ad on the first site and have been researching various christian sites to try. In the mean time I am letting fate take over until I gain a comprehention of dating in the modern age.
I have been on a few dates since my newly aquired single life has begun. My advice to women in my shoes would be to do your research before placing ads on dating sites. If you choose to utilize these sites, be very specific as to what you are seeking. Learn as much about these prospective mates as possible prior to giving out your cell phone number or actually meeting them. Times have changed like it or not and I am trying to grasp the whole idea of dating in this new era.
Happy dating ladies.
