ISLAMABAD: A high-profile woman senator belonging to the ruling party on Thursday attempted to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills for unknown reasons, sources told The News.
She was shifted to Polyclinic here in critical condition where a team of doctors washed her stomach and shifted her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment, the sources maintained.
Hospital sources disclosed that the woman senator (SK) took a heavy quantity of Diazepam and Lexotanil and fell unconscious, adding that a team of doctors, headed by Dr Sajjad, was trying to save her life.
The woman senator was in critical condition till the filing of this report. The hospital sources said that her address was mentioned as the ‘Parliament Lodges’.
This correspondent, while visiting the ICU, found the lady senator in critical condition; however, her breathing was restored. There was no attendant with the senator except an elderly lady.
The police authorities, when contacted by this correspondent, refused to comment on record, but on condition of anonymity confirmed the report, saying that police would not take up the case to avoid political pressure from the government and its ally party. He said neither any legal action would be taken against the woman senator nor an investigation will be conducted to ascertain the cause of her suicide attempt.
