ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week that ended on November 22 registered a decrease of 0.14 percent as compared to the previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 181.71 points against 181.96 points registered in the previous week, according to provisional figures of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
The SPI for the combined group decreased by 0.07 percent as it went down from 187.40 points in the previous week to 187.26 points in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 6.48 percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs8,001 to 12,000, Rs12,001 to Rs18,000, Rs18,001 to 35,000 and above Rs35,000 decreased by 0.12 percent, 0.11 percent, 0.07 and 0.03 percent respectively.
During the week under review, average prices of 14 items registered a decrease, while that of 15 items increased and the prices of the remaining 24 items remained unchanged. The items that registered a decrease in price during the week under review included onions, diesel, bananas, kerosene oil, chicken, garlic, moong pulse (washed), red chillies (loose), gur, mash pulse (washed), masoor pulse (washed), gram pulse (washed), sugar and wheat flour (bag).
The items which recorded increase in their average prices included tomatoes, petrol, egg hen (farm), lawn, potatoes, cigarettes, vegetable ghee (loose), rice basmati (broken), LPG (11 kg), wheat, milk, curd, vegetable ghee (tin), firewood and mutton.
The SPI for the combined group decreased by 0.07 percent as it went down from 187.40 points in the previous week to 187.26 points in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 6.48 percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs8,001 to 12,000, Rs12,001 to Rs18,000, Rs18,001 to 35,000 and above Rs35,000 decreased by 0.12 percent, 0.11 percent, 0.07 and 0.03 percent respectively.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice (irri-6), bread (plain), beef, milk (powdered), mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked dal, tea (prepared), long cloth, shirting, georgette, sandal (gents), chappal (gents), sandal (ladies), electric charges, gas charges (up to 100m3), energy savor, washing soap, match box, telephone local call and bath soap.
