PESHAWAR: Investigators are probing to find out the kind of explosives used in the Dera Ismail Khan blast that killed six persons and injured over 70 others on the occasion of Ashura.
Some reports suggested that the blast was triggered by an airborne improvised explosive device, may have been used for the first time in Pakistan. The report said nothing was planted inside a bicycle repairing shop as reported earlier.
The experts of the bomb disposal unit (BDU) and the top police officials, however, said they were investigating the matter and would be able to say something after proper analysis and forensic reports. “We are investigating the case. I am examining the evidence collected from the site in Dera Ismail Khan and the matter may be cleared after forensic reports,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the BDU of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Shafqat Malik told ‘The News’.
Such airborne IEDs are being used in Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries for the last many years. The police had cleared the area with the help of the BDU ahead of the Muharram procession. The cops were alert as there had been a blast near Bannu Chungi on the ninth of Muharram that killed eight persons, including six children.
